Artifact 3-D Scan Process
The Aucilla Research Institute has begun a virtual museum including artifacts and objects of scientific significance from the North Florida region.  Our virtual collections contain materials recovered from sites throughout the area, both by ARI Associate Scholars and by others.  Our virtual collection along with descriptive information may be viewed online; digital models of the items may be downloaded for study or for reproduction with ARI permission. For information on how the models are created, click here.

The Scanning Process
The ARI has developed an artifact scanning lab equipped with a high-resolution laser scanner associated with computer system and software. The heart of the scanning lab is a Next Engine scanner. That device "paints" the object being scanned with four bands of an infrared laser to measure distances and angles and create an amazingly dense image of 67,000 points per square inch.     ENTER THE VIRTUAL MUSEUM
